March Leader's Meeting

The next Ada County Leader's Association Meeting is Thursday, March 3rd, 7:00 pm. Everyone is invited to attend the Leader's Meetings! Thursday's meeting will include a guest speaker from Central District Health. Come and hear what she has to say about Skin Cancer in Idaho. After the general meeting there will be a training offered on Healthy Lifestyles using the 4-H Project "You're the Chef" This training will be held at 8:00 pm.

Happy Friday

Today is the fundraiser dinner and auction! Hope to see everyone there! Many wonderful items will be auctioned off tonight. Dinner starts at 5:00 pm at the Maple Grove Grang #244. See our Facebook page for pictures of auction items. Our March Newsletter is now available. Hard copies will be mailed out next week.

New 4-H Guides

The Ada County Extension Office has just received new 4-H Guides that you may find helpful with your projects. These book are available for check out only with a $20.00 deposit. The following 4-H Guides are available: Digital Photography Dog Training & Dog Tricks Raising Chickens Training Horses

Shopping at the 4-H Mall

If you've been thinking of buying anything online, by phone, or fax with the 4-H Mall, do it now! Shipping on all orders is One Cent until Tuesday, February 22nd. You can buy CCS project books, clothes, accessories, stickers and other fun stuff. You can't beat this deal! And you can get the popular books that the Extension Office sells out of for almost no shipping! Just go to the 4-H Mall

College Scholarships

If you are a graduating senior and looking for more scholarships give the Extension Office a call! The requirements, application deadlines, and amounts to be awarded vary, so check with our office soon. One scholarship offers up to $25,000 per year, a few are offering $1000 per person, and some are only offering $100 but they all help! Please share this information with anyone who may be interested! 

Dinner & Auction Fundraiser

The annual Leader's Association fundraiser will be held Friday, February 25th at the Maple Grove Grange #244. Dinner and the silent auction will begin at 5:00 pm. The live auction will begin at 6:00 pm Dinner is $6.00 for a pulled pork sandwich, sides, and a drink. Invite everyone you know to this event! All proceeds help our Ada County 4-H Program. Be sure to check out the flyer and share with friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors! Hope to see everyone there! Reminder: All clubs are responsible for providing two baskets for the auction. The baskets and descriptions need to be turned in by Friday, February 18th

Learn to use pressure canners and crock pots to save money! Whole Grains - More Than Bread: Tuesday, April 19, 7:00 pm, Cost: $8.00 Learn how to include whole grains in your diet without eating bread.Grains are a rich source of nutrients and provide immediate and long term benefits to a healthy diet. These classes fill up quick! Registration forms are available at the Extension Office

Shooting Sports Trainings

There's great Shooting Sports Trainings coming up this spring! All 4-H leaders must be certified in the shooting discipline they are teaching. Shotgun certification training will be held Saturday, April 16th at the Marsing Rod & Gun Club, Marsing, ID. Archery, rifle, and handgun trainings will be offered at different times. Information about these trainings will be posted when available. The registration form for this training will be on our website by Friday, February 11th . Click here .

The Ada County Extension Office does more than just 4-H - check out the free landscaping classes ! University of Idaho, Ada County Extension, City of Boise, and United Water, Idaho are holding a series of Free Landscaping Classes, Wednesdays from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The classes are held at the Boise Library, 715 S Capitol Blvd. February 9 Choosing the Right Plant  February 16 Water-Wise Landscape Design February 23 Caring for a Water-Wise Landscape To register email: landscape@unitedwater.com  

CSI Livestock Judging Contest

4-H clubs are invited to participate in a livestock judging contest on Saturday, February 12 at the College of Southern Idaho Exposition Center, Twin Falls. Registrations are available at the Extension Office and are due by Monday, February 7. However, walk-in registrations are accepted on the day of the event. This is a great event for anyone interested in livestock judging! There are a lot of deadlines and events coming up quick!  Following is a list of some of the deadlines to watch for: February 4th: Horsemanship Award Application due February 5th: Senior Horse Bowl February 7th: First Year Camp Counselor Applications due February 7th: Registration due for CSI Livestock Judging Contest February 7th: New Leader Training

Adventure Camp Counselors!

4-H Adventure Camp is held on Cascade Lake, Donnelly, ID every summer. There are two Kids Camps for grades 3rd through 5th and one Teen Camp for grades 6th through 8th. Youth who will have completed the 9th grade by the June Kids Camp (June 26th) are invited to become a Camp Counselor. The registrations packets and counselor training dates are available here. The registration deadline for new counselors is Monday, February 7, 2011. The registration deadline for returning counselors is Monday, March 7, 2011. Camp counselors are an integral part of 4-H Adventure Camp! Counselors help with camp activities, workshops, campfires, and more!
