Summer Day Camps

Are you ready for our Summer Day Camps!? The brochures will be out soon, look for them posted here and on our website by Monday, May 2. But if you want an early peak at our brochures Kelton will be at the Camp & Education  Fair on Saturday, April 30 at Expo Idaho. The brochures and registration forms for 4-H Adventure Camp will also be available. The event is free and there will be hands on events for the kids. So, come get our brochures early and sign up for the camps. There is limited space available and they will fill up fast.

May 4-H Newsletter

Our May newsletter is now available! Click here to view it. If your club has any information to share about activities, fund raisers, or stories please submit them for the newsletter to email: dhobbs@uidaho.edu or fax: 208-287-5909. Also, please let us know what you would like to see on this blog, Facebook, or Twitter by using the comments section or email! We would like to use all formats available for you to receive important information.

Wells Fargo/First Security Watch Award

Every year a wrist watch is given to an outstanding 4-H member! We encourage 4-H members to apply for this award or if you think that someone in your club deserves recognition encourage them to apply for this award! Applicants must have completed 3 years or more in 4-H and have passed their 14th birthday at the time of application. Their 4-H leader must write a recommendation and the 4-H member must write a short statement (100 words or more) about their leadership acheivement. Applications are available at the Extension Office and due Monday, May 16.

Educational Carnival

Play games and win prizes at the Educational Carnival on Saturday, May 21 at the Western Idaho Fairgrounds. Show up at 8:30 am for the fun! There will be all kinds of great games! Have fun learning while earning prizes. For every correct answer you receive a ticket for the prize drawing. See how many right answers you can get. There will be all kinds of small animals like cats, dogs, cavy, rabbits, and more! This is going to be a lot of fun for everyone, it's free too. Cloverbuds (ages 5 to 7) are welcome with a parent.

Spring Horse Shows!

Spring is here and we're seeing a lot of Horse Shows! Saturday, April 30: Canyon County Horse Leaders are hosting a spring show at Birt's Arena in Nampa. Registration begins at 8:00 am and show begins at 9:00 am. Cloverbuds are welcome to participate on stick horses! Saturday, May 14: Saddle Tramps  4-H are hosting a show at Birt's Arena in Nampa also. Registration begins at 8:00 am and the show starts at 9:00 am. Bring canned food items and receive raffle tickets for a drawing to held during the show. In June look for a date and time for Eh Capa's English Horse Show! Information will be available as soon as possible! If you have any questions about the shows call 287-5900.                    

National 4-H Dairy Conference

The 4-H Dairy Conference is held annually in Madison, Wisconsin. This event is open to 4-H members with an interest in the dairy industry. One of the requirements is involvement in the 4-H Dairy Project for 3 years or the Dairy Foods Project also for 3 years. Participants must be at least 15 years old and not older than 19 as of January 1, 2011. There will be tours of farms and businesses, and workshops, and the chance to meet new people! Spring Lego Robotics

The Ada County 4-H Program is starting a spring Robotics Program for ages 9 to 14! This program will feature the Sumo Bot challenge. The program starts Friday, April 15 and runs through Friday, May 27 at 4:15 pm to 6:00 pm at the Ada County Extension Office If you're interested in this program call 287-5900 or email kjensen@uidaho.edu

Livestock Judging Clinics

There is a Livestock Judging Clinic on Saturday, April 30 at the Elmore County Fairgrounds, Glenns Ferry. Youth are free and there is a $2 adult jackpot. The registration deadline is Monday, April 25. Click here for the registration form. Treasure Valley Community College is offering a Livestock Judges Class on Tuesday, May 10 at the Malheur County Fairgrounds. Teams of 3 to 5 people cost $25, individuals $6. Lunch is included. Upcoming Extension Classes

The Ada County Extension Office is offering some great classes this month! Seafood - For Health Conscious Consumers . Tuesday April 26 and Tuesday, May 3, 7:00 pm at the Ada County Extension Office. This class covers the health benefits of seafood, dietary guidelines, and recommendations, Learn how to select, store, and safely cook freshwater fish and seafood. Cost is $8.00 Whole Grains - More Than Bread . Tuesday, April 19, 7:00 pm, at the Ada County Extension Office. Learn how to add whole grains to your diet without adding more bread! Whole grains are a rich source of nutrients for a healthy diet. Learn about meal planning tips, information, and taste a variety of whole grains that you can add to your menu. Cost is $8.00 Both of these classes still have some room. To register for these classes or to see more classes go to the Ada  County Extension website .

District II Horse Camp Scholarships

District II Horse Camp is a great opportunity to learn about horses and horsemanship while having a great time camping! It's held annually in Donnelly, ID. Families are also welcome to attend camp. This year Horse Camp is Thursday, June 23 to Sunday, June 26. There are scholarships available for Horse Camp. The District II scholarship form is included with the Horse Camp registration packet and is due on Friday, April 8th.
