Dog Shows

Check out these dog shows! Great practice before fair. Lone Star 4-H Club's Annual 4-H Dog Match Saturday, July 9 this event s being held at Luby Park on the corner of Indiana/Marble Front in Caldwell. The entry fee is something that can be donated to the Canyon County Animal Shelter, like old blankets, old towels, toys, collars, leashes, etc Register at 8:30 am. Obedience and showmanship classes will be offered. 4-H Show and Go Monday, July 11 This show gives you an opportunity to show case what you've learned in the 4-H dog Project. The classes will include fitting and showing, obedience. Must be enrolled in the Dog Project to participate. This event will be held at 10164 Elvera Ln, Nampa from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. More Day Camps

We still have Day Camps with openings. Not a lot of openings, but if you hurry you can enjoys the following camps: Junior Planters July 13 Ages 5 to 8 This is a lot of fun for budding gardeners! We'll be playing in the dirt and learning about plants. There will also be fun games, crafts, and your own plant to take home with you. Small Treasures July 14 Ages 5 to 10 Make your own small treasures at this camp. Also learn to sew small items. A great camp full of crafts and fun! There's even more camps still open! State Livestock Skill-a-Thon Contest

Check out this new state contest! This contest is for anyone interested in livestock production. Guidelines are still being put together for this contest and should be available by Friday, July 1st. Guidelines will be emailed to people already on the email list, but the guidelines will also be posted here! The Skill-a-Thon will be held at the Jerome County Fairgrounds on Saturday, September 19th. So, what is the skill-a-thon and what are the objectives? To provide youth with the opportunity to blend knowledge and skills acquired in livestock judging, demonstrations, care, and exhibition of animals into one activity. To provide youth who have no opportunity for livestock ownership to learn about the importance of livestock and their products to the environment. To encourage youth to continue expanding their knowledge and participation. To recognize youth for their total involvement in and comprehension in the livestock industry. CPR Training

Would you know what to do in an emergency? This training will teach life saving skills and teach you what to do in an emergency. You will learn how to preform CPR on adults, children, and infants. You will also receive a CPR card after completing this training. This is a recommended training as a companion to the Babysitting training. Babysitting Training

What makes an effective babysitter? This class will teach you what you need to know to be a great babysitter! Learn games to play with children and snacks you can provide for them too! You will also learn what to do in an emergency. This class covers important information to prepare you for babysitting. Earn extra money using the skills you'll gain here. Participants in this class also receive a CD containing all class materials and resource materials. CPR is being offered as a separate class on a different date. Jackpot Show

The Treasure Valley Swine Spectacular is Saturday, June 18 at Expo Idaho. Entry fee is $20 per head and 100% of the entry fees go into the Jackpot! You can bring your pig after 9:00 am and the weigh-in is at 10:00 am. The show begins at noon. For more information on this show call Travis at 919-5387.

Judging Clinics (And not just animals!)

Check out these fun "judging" clinics being held this month. All clinics are FREE! So, you have to bring your own snacks and drinks to these events. Free Modeling Clinics Every Friday for the month of June 4-H Building, Gem County Fairgrounds Ages 8 to 18 - you don't have to be in 4-H to come! 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm Consumer Decisions (Choices in the non-animals world!) Thursday, June 16 4-H Building, Gem County Fairgrounds Ages 5 to 18 and families - Bring a friend too 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm And finally, just when you thought that none of these judging clinics had anything to do with animals there's this last clinic! Youth Pig Camp!

It's Almost Time for Teen Conference

It's almost time for teens all across the state to converge on the University of Idaho campus in Moscow! This annual event starts Monday, June 13th. It's too late to sign up for it this year so if you're interested be sure to sign up early next year! If you're wondering why everyone wants to go to this event, let us tell you about it: See the campus and experience the university setting Meet new people and make new friends for life! Hurry! Camp Counselor Opportunity!

A great opportunity just came up for teens who are interested in becoming camp counselors with the Operation Military Kids (O:MK) Camps this summer. You have to act fast on this one and email Sue Philley by Wednesday, June 8th at sphilley@uidaho.edu This opportunity is open to 4-H members ages 14 to 18 to help with the camp on June 24-26 near Coeur d'Alene. Training for this camp will be held Saturday, June 11 at the Ada County Extension Office from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Transportation is provided to and from camp for the counselors. A fee of $10 will be charged and this includes t-shirt and materials. If you can't make this camp there is also another O:MK camp held in Ketchum July 22-24. Training for this camp will be held Saturday July 9 and Saturday, July 16 at the Ada County Extension Office.
